Many years ago
100 years ago … was a different place. There were no cars but there were many horses. There were some schools but not many. There were no internet cafes and there were no factories. There were many shops but they didn’t sell televisions, computers or radios. There were many small houses but there weren’t any big buildings like today.

Today the population of Saint Petersburg is over 5 million people.
In 1921 there were 830 000 people in Saint Petersburg. It was a very hard time. There were many poor people. Most of the streets and roads were cobblestone. There were few cars in Saint Petersburg 100 years ago. People travelled on horses, by trains and steamboats.
