The animal let out a soft, sorrowful sound — it whined, a long, high-pitched cry filled with emotion, as if trying to express its confusion and worry. It stood completely still, its ears tilted forward, focusing with complete concentration — every muscle tense, its full attention fixed on the person in front of it.
Though it didn’t understand every word spoken, it caught the meaning through the tone and one familiar term. The man kept repeating a command, and although the amount left over of the sentence was meaningless to the creature, the one word it recognized was «home.»
Then came a sudden and strong shout — short and clear — that made the animal react at once. With visible reluctance, it turned and began moving, glancing back a few times as though unsure whether to stay or go.
Later, when it reached the house, the family greeted it with joy. But when the children ran up to the animal, something shifted. It backed away, uneasy, then suddenly growled and snapped. The family feared that it might change from being friendly to being aggressive — that it might suddenly turn wild.
The mother rushed over, wrapped her arms around the frightened children, and made them feel emotionally better, speaking in a gentle voice as she comforted them.
Still tense, the adults began to argue over the animal’s nature.
«It’s not a pure wolf,» said one. «There’s some dog in him — a different type of animal, a more domestic breed.»
Before anyone could reply, the animal suddenly grabbed the woman’s dress with its teeth and pulled at something, tearing the fabric as it dragged on it urgently. Everyone froze. The creature stood tall, trembling — its muscles tensed, its face intense. Its throat made an uncontrolled movement, but no sound came out — not yet.
«He’s going mad,» someone whispered.
«No,» said another in a quick, clear manner. «He’s trying to tell us something — we need to follow him.»
