1. The Three Main Parts of the Nervous System
The nervous system is made up of three key components:

The brain – the control center where all thinking, decision-making, and interpreting happen.

The spinal cord – a long bundle of nerves that runs through the spine and connects the brain to the rest of the body.

Nerves – a network of fibers that carry messages between the brain, spinal cord, and every part of the body.

These three parts work together to help the body respond quickly to internal and external stimuli.

2. The Organ That Controls the Nervous System
The brain is the main control center of the nervous system. It receives information from the body, processes it, and then sends instructions back. Everything we think, feel, or do begins in the brain.

3. The Largest Part of the Brain
The biggest part of the brain is called the cerebrum. It is responsible for voluntary actions, thought processes, speech, memory, and interpreting sensory information such as vision and hearing. It is divided into two hemispheres — the left and the right — each controlling different functions.

4. The Function of the Cerebellum
The cerebellum is a smaller part of the brain located at the back of the head, under the cerebrum. It plays a vital role in:

Coordinating movements

Maintaining posture

Helping with balance

Without the cerebellum, our movements would be jerky and uncoordinated.

The thalamus acts like a message relay center. It receives signals from the sensory organs — like the eyes, ears, skin, and tongue — and forwards them to the correct areas of the brain for processing.

The hypothalamus plays a key role in regulating the body’s metabolism. It helps control hunger, thirst, temperature, hormone release, and sleep. It also communicates with the endocrine system to help maintain internal balance, or homeostasis.

Nerve cells are scientifically known as neurons. These are the fundamental building blocks of the nervous system. Neurons carry electrical signals throughout the body and allow communication between the brain and various body parts.

The human brain contains approximately one billion neurons. These neurons form vast networks that make it possible for us to learn, remember, move, feel emotions, and experience the world around us.
