– Hello, I’m Frank Smith — I live next door. We haven’t really had the chance to talk much.
– Oh, hi there! Yes, I guess we don’t run into each other very often. Is there something you wanted to talk about?
– Actually, yes. If you’ve got a minute, I’d like to mention something.
– Of course, go ahead.
– I noticed you recently got a dog — it’s lovely, really. But I’ve been having a bit of a problem. It tends to bark a lot during the night, and I’ve also found some of my garden plants dug up. Do you think you might be able to do something about it?
– Oh, I’m really sorry! I honestly didn’t realize it was causing trouble. I totally get why you’re upset. Please accept my apologies — I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again.
– Thank you, I appreciate your understanding.
– No problem at all. And if anything else ever bothers you, feel free to come and talk to me directly.
A Friendly Conversation Between Neighbours
Frank Smith had been living in his quiet suburban neighborhood for several years. Although he knew most of his neighbors by name, he had rarely interacted with the new family who had moved in next door a few months ago. Recently, however, Frank had been struggling to get a good night’s sleep. There was a dog next door that barked late into the night, and to make matters worse, he discovered that some of his carefully tended plants had been dug up.
One afternoon, Frank decided it was time to address the situation. He walked over to his neighbor’s house and rang the doorbell. A man in his mid-thirties opened the door with a smile.
“Hi, I’m Frank Smith. I live next door,” Frank said politely. “We haven’t had much of a chance to talk since you moved in.”
“Oh, hi!” the man replied warmly. “Yes, it’s true. We don’t see each other often. Is everything okay?”
“Actually,” Frank began, “I was hoping to have a quick word, if that’s alright with you.”
“Sure, go ahead,” the neighbor nodded.
“Well,” Frank continued, “I noticed that you recently got a dog. That’s great — I’m a dog person myself. But I’ve been having a bit of trouble sleeping at night because of the barking. Also, it seems like your dog might have been digging up some of the plants in my garden.”
The man looked genuinely surprised and concerned. “Oh no, I had no idea! I’m so sorry about that. I completely understand why that would be frustrating. Please accept my sincere apologies. I’ll definitely make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Frank gave a small smile, relieved by the response. “Thank you, I really appreciate that. It means a lot.”
“Of course,” the neighbor said kindly. “And if anything else ever bothers you, just come straight to me. I’d rather talk it out than let it turn into a bigger issue.”
